Hi, I'm Lena. I write this blog from a small flat in Winterthur.
How I ended up here
I moved to Switzerland for work in 2021 with two suitcases, a bicycle and exactly zero words of Swiss German. The first months were a crash course in things that are obvious to everyone who grew up here and a complete mystery to everyone else.
Friends back home kept asking the same questions, so I started writing the answers down. This blog is the result: practical, personal and occasionally wrong. If you spot a mistake, I am always happy to hear about it.
What you will find here
Everyday life. Renting a flat, waste and recycling, opening hours, public holidays and all the small rules in between.
Getting around. Trains, buses, boats and cable cars, and how to pay for them without going broke.
Weekends. Day hikes, lakes, markets and the occasional very expensive coffee with a view.
